Gradall Forklift Parts - Through the period when World War II caused a shortage of workers, the legendary Gradall excavator was born in the 1940s as the idea of two brothers Koop and Ray Ferwerda. The brothers faced the problems of a depleted labor force due to the war. As partners in their Cleveland, Ohio construction business referred to as Ferwerda-Werba-Ferwerda they lacked the available workers so as to carry out the delicate job of finishing and grading on their interstate projects. The Ferwerda brothers decided to build a machine which will save their company by making the slope grading job more efficient, less manual and easier.

Their very first design model was a machine with two beams set on a rotating platform which was attached atop a second-hand truck. A telescopic cylinder moved the beams back and forth which enabled the fixed blade at the end of the beams to pull or push dirt. Soon enhancing the initial design, the brothers made a triangular boom to add more strength. As well, they added a tilt cylinder which let the boom rotate 45 degrees in either direction. A cylinder was positioned at the back of the boom, powering a long push rod to enable the machinery to be outfitted with either a blade or a bucket attachment.

Gradall introduced in the year 1992, with the introduction of the new XL Series hydraulics, the most ground-breaking adjustment in their equipment since their creation. This new system of top-of-the-line hydraulics allowed the Gradall excavator to deliver comparable power and high productivity to the more conventional excavators. The XL Series ended the first Gradall equipment power drawn from low pressure hydraulics and gear pumps. These traditional systems efficiently handled grading and finishing work but had a hard time competing for high productivity work.

Gradall's new XL Series excavators showed more ability to lift and dig materials. With this series, the models were made along with a piston pump, high-pressure system of hydraulics that showed distinct improvement in boom and bucket breakout forces. The XL Series hydraulics system was also developed with a load-sensing capability. Traditional excavators utilize an operator to be able to pick a working-mode; where the Gradall system can automatically adjust the hydraulic power for the task at hand. This makes the operator's whole job easier and also conserves fuel simultaneously.

Once the new XL Series hydraulics reached the market, Gradall was thrust into the very competitive industrial equipment market which are designed to tackle pavement removal, excavating, demolition and various industrial jobs. The introduction of the new telescoping boom helped to further enhance the excavator's marketability. The telescoping boom gives the excavator the ability to work in low overhead areas and to better position attachments.
